German buttercream is a custard-based buttercream. In the class method, milk and a cornflour slurry are cooked into a thick custard before the butter stages; that custard forms part of the frosting's structure and texture.

Use the complete German-buttercream formula. Adding an arbitrary amount of custard to Oreo or American buttercream does not create the same tested frosting.
